Charles Joseph Spaetgens Roberts Cove - Funeral services will be held at St. Leo IV Catholic Church, Friday, October 5, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. for Charles Joseph Spaetgens, 84 who died Wednesday, October 3, 2012 in Roberts Cove. Interment will be in the St. Leo IV Cemetery, Roberts Cove, LA. Surviving are wife, Ethel Broussard Spaetgens of Roberts Cove, six daughters, Cheryl Short and husband Douglas of Iota, Ella Thevis and husband Jimmy of Maxie, Stella Morgan and husband Ray of Roberts Cove, Susie Guillot and husband Wayne of Crowley, Anna Benoit and husband Kevin of Crowley, Mary Spaetgens and husband Kendall Sarver of Roberts Cove, fourteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, four step sons, Donald Vincent of Rayne, Kermit Thibodeaux of Rayne, Patrick Thibodeaux of Rayne, Wesley Thibodeaux of Rayne, two sisters, Marie Broussard of Lafayette and Allie Caillier of Rayne, two brothers, Leo Spaetgens of Roberts Cove and Anthony "Tony" Spaetgens of Rayne. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Perry Spaetgens, parents, Hubert Leo Spaetgens and Josepha Elizabeth Gossen, three brothers, Henry Joseph, Lawrence, John Hubert Spaetgens. He was born Saturday, July 28, 1928 in Rayne, LA, Son of the late Hubert Leo Spaetgens and the late Josepha Elizabeth Gossen. Mr. Spaetgens served as Treasurer of St. Leo Holy Name Society, President of Lectures of St. Leo Catholic Church, President of the local 10407, CWA Lake Charles, President of YMBC in Rayne, Commander President of VFW Post 6720 in Crowley, Commander of American Legion Post 77 in Rayne, President USS General Butner Reunion Association, Commander VFW Post 9822 in Judice. He worked as a Office Foreman for Bell South Telephone Co. for 32 years. A rosary will be recited Thursday, October 4, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at Gossen Funeral Home. Friends will be received at Gossen Funeral Home, Inc., Rayne, LA. Thursday, October 4, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. and Friday, October 5, 2012 from 8:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m..
